ABOUT

Tracing back from the European era of ballet to now, a lot has changed. We see more diversity now than ever before. But if we try to mirror reality to the limited dance wear brands and boutiques that house them, there's still work to be done. It is our mission at ON POINTE BTQ, to not only house brands catering to black and brown dancers, but, to have a one-stop-shop with an overwhelming sense of belonging. It is our mission to eliminate the difficulty and create access to resources that make the black and brown dance community feel celebrated and acknowledged. Visibility is at the heart of ON POINTE BTQ- where every dancer, everywhere is seen. The opportunity here is far more impactful than just a shopping experience. It creates a world of belonging, assurance, and visibility- from a toddler learning first position to a professional’s debut as DewDrop in Nutcracker. There is a prevalent need for diversity within the  dance community and ON POINTE BTQ wants to meet that need.

OUR FOUNDER

Angelique Laurin Smith-Wood, our founder and DMV Native, is grounded in the dance community and committing to the next generation of artists. With over a decade of combined experience in professional extensive ballet training and retail sales, it was an adamant vision to see the intersection of the two worlds. With apparel catered to black and brown dancers, ON POINTE BTQ will dedicate space that values inclusivity and empowers every dancer, everywhere to reimagine the world of dance wear.
